Update: Clarkstown PD Arrest 2 Suspects After Fleeing Hit-and-Run Crashes

CLARKSTOWN – Two suspects are in custody after police say they fled a pair of hit and run crashes Tuesday morning.

VIA Clarkstown Police Department, – The suspect from the hit and run car accident has been located. Clarkstown PD is not searching for anymore suspects at this time in regards to this morning’s hit and run accident.

Around 8:30 am on Tuesday, police were investigating a hit and run car accident that occurred in Central Nyack. The suspect vehicle that fled the scene was involved in another accident on Rt 59 in front of the Palisades Mall. The Clarkstown PD deployed a Drone to search for the potential suspect from the incident in the area of Rt 59 in front of the Palisades Center Mall.

Authorities say the suspect vehicle was involved in an accident and then fled the scene, getting into a rollover crash before the two occupants fled on foot.

One suspect, believed to be the driver, was found in the underground parking garage of the Palisades Mall with a head wound. It is not known if the injury was from the accident or from a fall inside the parking structure. He was removed from the scene to Westchester Medical Center. The second suspect was subsequently found hiding in a wooded area behind the Paramedic Services building, police said. (ABC7)

Clarkstown Police Department Temporary Road Closure April 22-April 25th Valley Cottage

Gilchrest Rd will be temporarily closed beginning, Monday, April 22 to Thursday, April 25, at the railroad crossing between Stern Place and Sasson Terrace in Valley Cottage. This closure is due to construction upgrades being performed by CSX. Please follow the posted detours provided by CSX.

Update From The Clarkstown Police Department

Recently, a resident posted this picture of a large black rat snake at Congers Lake. Town staff was sent to identify and locate it and the photo was sent to the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation experts who identified it as an extremely large native black rat snake. According to the DEC these snakes average three to five feet but can grow to as large as eight feet. It is not venomous and poses NO harm to people. It is prime season to see them as they emerge from hibernation and the temperature is still cool out. They feed on mice, voles, small birds and eggs etc.
If you see this snake or others like it just give it space, they will be slower this time of year due to weather and will pose no harm to any residents. If you see a snake like this at Congers Lake realize that is its natural habitat and please give it space.
