Ramapo Gymnastics Coach Joseph Lewin Pleads Guilty To Sex Abuse Charges

RAMAPO, NY – Joseph Lewin (also goes by Lewondaski) 67 years old, who now lives in Port Chester, has admitted to having sexual contact with minors during a hearing on Tuesday, June 18, in which he pleaded guilty, said the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office.

Lewin admitted to having sexual contact with young individuals at Joe’s Gym in Hillburn between 2007 and 2014. In addition to Joe’s Gym, Lewin was also co-owner and director of Universal Gymnastics in Spring Valley, The Mini Gym of Pomona, and was the founder of Mini Gym program for preschoolers and gymnastics in White Plains. “As a youth coach, this defendant held a position of power over his students,” said acting Rockland County District Attorney Kevin Gilleece. “He abused their trust and took advantage of his vulnerable victims. He has pled guilty, waived his right to appeal and will now be held accountable for the terrible crimes he committed.”

The 68-year-old, who is scheduled to be sentenced in September, faces four years in state prison, according to the Rockland County district attorney’s office.

Lewin must also register as a sex offender under the provisions of ‘Megan’s Law’ and remain under supervision for five years after his release from prison.

Ramapo Police Department Respond To An Assault With A Knife

On Thursday April 11, 2024, at approximately 8:27pm, the Ramapo Police Department responded to Trailside Place in the Town of Ramapo for the report of an assault with a knife. Upon the officers arrival, it was discovered that the victim had been accosted in his driveway by an unknown suspect. The victim was stabbed multiple times and removed from the scene to the hospital. Patrol officers located a possible suspect, and he was detained and brought to the Ramapo Police Department for questioning. The individual was cooperative and released from custody pending further investigation.
The victim is currently in stable condition and expected to survive. The Ramapo Police Department was assisted on scene by the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office, the Clarkstown Police Department, Hatzolah Ambulance Corps, and Chaverim of Rockland.

Clarkstown Police Units Were Dispatched To Affinity Federal Credit Union For Alleged Fraud

Clarkstown Police units were dispatched to 35 Bardonia Rd. (Affinity Federal Credit Union) for an alleged fraud. The two suspects exited the bank and attempted to flee, as officers arrived one of the suspects was apprehended. The second suspect, a female wearing a hat with COLORADO on it, had left the scene. Several CPD officers had arrived on scene and began searching the area for her. During this time Bardonia Elementary was advised of the search for the suspect and they out of an abundance of caution immediately went into a Lockout. The lockout has been lifted, without further incident. The female suspect has not been located at this time.
