Nurses and Teachers Unions Endorses Mondaire Jones in NY 17th Congressional District

Published

on

NYACK, NY – Mondaire Jones, Democratic nominee in New York’s 17th Congressional District, announced he had been endorsed by the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA), the New York State United Teachers (NYSUT), the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), and the National Educators Association (NEA). Jones’ campaign is already supported by a number of labor unions, and last month he earned the endorsement of the New York State AFL-CIO.

“NYSNA members are excited to endorse Mondaire Jones’ candidacy for U.S. Congress as he champions policies in support of nurses, our families and our patients,” said NYSNA President Judy Sheridan-Gonzalez, RN. “In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, he stood alongside the dedicated nurses of NYP-Hudson Valley Hospital as they continued their protracted fight for a fair contract. Mondaire has made it clear that he will keep up the fight for all nurses in his district, and in the halls of Congress, as a strong, vocal advocate for safe staffing, paid sick leave, protection on the job, and Medicare for All.”

“We need representatives in Washington who will stand up for public schools, colleges and hospitals, and we know Mondaire will do exactly that,” said NYSUT President Andy Pallotta. “Especially now as we face a fiscal crisis, we’re proud to endorse Mondaire because he’s someone who will fight from within to make sure Congress does what’s right on behalf of all who benefit from high-quality public education and health care.”

“Now more than ever, we see the essential roles that our nurses and teachers play to keep our communities safe and healthy, literally risking their lives to save others and to educate our future generations,” said Jones. “I owe so much to my teachers in the East Ramapo Central School District, who provided the support and encouragement that got me where I am today. I also know that, unfortunately, my story is the exception and not the rule. We must fight harder for equal opportunity in our country. Everyone deserves the right to quality health care and a quality public education. Our local unions know I’ll be a champion for working people in Congress, and I am so honored to have their support.”

Clarkstown Councilman Patrick Carroll Announces Candidacy for NYS Assembly District 96

Published

on

NEW CITY, NY – Town of Clarkstown Councilman Patrick Carroll announces his candidacy for New York State Assembly District 96, to replace Assemblyman Ken Zebrowki who recently announced that he wasn’t seeking re-election. Councilman Carroll currently represents Ward 4, which encompasses Bardonia, New City, Nanuet, Spring Valley and West Nyack. He lives in Bardonia with his wife Natalie and their four daughters: Madelyn, Lily, Paige and Hailey. He is a graduate of Northeastern University School of Law and Wesleyan University, a licensed attorney, and currently works as an Administrative Law Judge for New York State.

“After speaking with community leaders, I have decided to seek election to the New York State Assembly. Filling my good friend Ken Zebrowski’s shoes will be no easy task, as he has been an outstanding and effective advocate for Rockland families. I hope to build on Ken’s substantial achievements and will work to protect the suburban quality of life that exists in Haverstraw, Nyack and Clarkstown.” said Councilman Carroll.

Since his announcement, Carroll has received key endorsements from democratic leaders from retired Legislator Harriet Cornell and Legislator Beth Davidson.

“When you knock about 3,000 doors alongside someone, you get to know them pretty well—what they believe in, what they stand for, whom they fight for. While I am so grateful to Ken Zebrowski for his 17 years of admirable and effective service as our Assemblyman, I am thrilled to endorse my friend Clarkstown Councilman Patrick J. Carroll for AD-96. I stand ready to knock another 2-3,000 doors to secure your election, Pat—and I know no one will work harder to help Dems up and down the ticket in November!” said Legislator Beth Davidson.
